Fashion Designers Neighborhood Group Project Outline for 2018

The Fashion Designers have chosen to construct a jacket using Vogue pattern #1347 (loosely fitting jacket that is out of print and can be purchased at various websites on- line) or Vogue pattern #1526 (more fitted jacket can be purchased at JoAnn’s). This will be a yearlong project where a variety of sewing techniques will be discussed and demonstrated to include:

· Construction techniques for sewing different fabrics

· Fabrics & the relationship to

o Stitch length 
o Thread types
o Interfacing 
o Needles 
· In-depth pattern & fabric relationship 
· Altering patterns so proportions are maintained and flatter the figure
· Adding embellishments to garments & what to consider before adding

· What to consider when ordering fabrics online so you get what you want
· Pocket installations

The Designers meet the first Monday of each month (unless it is a holiday) at the Hollins Branch Library on Peters Creek Road. 10:00 am. - 12:00 pm. We invite you to join us on this jacket making adventure. The monthly schedule is as follows. 

Meeting focus is subject to change as the project progresses.

·  March 5, 2018 Lecture & Demo: Muslin Fitting
·  April 9, 2018 (Second Monday because first Monday is Easter Monday)
